Pastels always ruffles always adds a beautiful romantic flair to your sunny wardrobe. I added a bit on an edge, by playing with rose and berry pleathers!

Anchor your ruffle top with a fitted skirt, to balance the sleeve volume.

A sheen jacket is sassy, chic and trendy!

Team up your look with a chunky neckpiece and a gorgeous platform to complete your look. 😉

I love a beautiful vintage look. And how gorgeous are the veil hats? Just delicately revealing part of the female frame.

I shot recently with ‘Shutterstevie’ and we played with a light and retro decor at the iconic Anotoli restuarant in Cape Town.

It created the most beautiful backdrop for our moody shot.

This, teamed with my chandelier choker, of – shoulder top, pleated skirt, fishnets and pointies, were enough of a recipe for a very captivating shoot.

I love moody shots! Thank you photo fundi Stephen!

So as you know, my clothing brand is called ‘Calista’. It means ‘she who is most beautiful’. Every piece designed to delicately compliment your frame and to make you feel feminine and sophisticated.

Full flare skirts were ‘Marilyn’s dream, and this one is in the iconic magazine cover print!

Add a bit of an edge with a grungy biker and fitted top or even a corset!!

Viva le Diva!!

When I was in matric/Grade 12, I had the most amazing idea of a design which my dressmaker at the time became quite excite about. She explained how she would add extra details and fabrics, to give my ‘catsuit’ (early 90’s term for jumpsuit) the extra lift I wanted.

Boy was I excited! Needless to say, it ended up looking a bit like a clown outfit.

This further sparked my determination to be a great designer, someone who puts my clients needs first; who is honest about expectation VS achieveability, and level of skill and experience. The most heartbreaking thing is to deliver a *disaster* to a teen, who is already struggling with self esteem, peer pressure, the guilt of matric dance costs, and of course, the daunting further study, and matric exams.

Thank goodness that somehow 95% of my customers were always over the moon, with the occasional difficult, spoilt teen who wanted the ‘Ellie Saab’ couture dress at a cost of $10….heehehhe

No, I do not only design white matric dance dresses, heeheee, these were just the popular colour for the season at the time. 🙂

This summer, the sheer ‘Ballerina’ trend is probably the biggest allround. I decided to show it off in a beautiful, whimsical style instead of the layered urban looks we see so often.

I designed an empire maxi with an angel sleeve which could provide some arm coverage, if you need it!

The empire lengthens your torso…

And when layered over a tonal (similar colour) dress, it softens the look.
Try yours with a shorter dress as an option to the maxi and slightly show off your legs!

There is nothing more beautiful than an African woman rocking her beautiful fro. It is undeniable that a movement has started, where woman celebrate their natural hair…and I love it!

I recently shot with a ‘fro’ and it took me 6 hours to get my hair to at least look like some sort of ‘jerry/springy’ curl. Sadly, my natural hair is ‘wavy’ and dry, rather than ‘springy’ and fabulous…… oi! In an ideal world, I would rock this look all day, evrrrrrrry day, but let’s call a spade, a spade, and just work the best with what you have!Heeeheeehee.

Pleather dresses are always on trend, and a shift is a fab way to still add sophistication to what may seem a ‘very tough’ look.

Fringe is back, baby! So why not a cute cropped jacket with boyfroend jeans, and the imfamous ‘leopard’ heel?

That biker and statement – skirt – and – T combo! Yes – you need a biker. Its aseasonal and you can wear it with anything!!

If you don’t know it yet hun, the pleated skirt is here for life!

Sheers – Mesh, chiffons, eyelet mesh, anything ‘see-through’ is spot on trend this season. So instead of rocking it with a flat, I opted for a sneaker! It’s not only ubercool, its comfy darling!

Have fun experimenting with looks. Remember – dress for your shape, and use elements of fashion to complete your looks. Style always preceeds fashion!
